Tourists visit these falls not only to witness the view, but to feel the exact relaxation that their mind craves. There's no rush, no noise, just the sound of water meeting the earth. This is not a place to tick off a list; it's a moment to feel. If you're searching for a tranquil place with scenic views, this is one of the best places to include in your Meghalaya tour package.

History of Seven Sisters Falls

History of Seven Sisters Falls in Meghalaya.webp

The Seven Sisters Falls, also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, is one of the most famous waterfalls in Meghalaya. It gets its name because the water splits into seven separate streams as it falls down the cliff. This makes it look like seven sisters standing side by side. The waterfall is about 315 meters (1,033 feet) tall, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The falls are located in the East Khasi Hills, near the town of Cherrapunji, which is known for receiving the highest rainfall in the world. Because of the heavy rain, the falls are most powerful during the monsoon season.

For many years, this waterfall has been a popular spot for nature lovers, photographers, and travellers. There is also a cultural meaning behind the name. People say it symbolises the unity of the seven northeastern states of India, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, which are often called the "Seven Sisters." The falls are not only a natural wonder but also a symbol of connection and harmony among these states.

This creates a breathtaking sight filled with lush greenery, occasional rainbows, making it one of the most vibrant and beautiful places to visit in Meghalaya
